Mountain Dulcimer – Evolutionary Exercises That Will Boost Your Playing
If you’re looking to break out of your rut with the mountain dulcimer, come to this workshop and fill your skill-level toolbox with some brand-new gems! We’ll use selective strumming for ultimate melodic control, work with inversions for variety and sizzle, and apply cross-picking for rhythmic punch. All exercises will be put to use on a really good tune! (All Skill Levels)
12 pm – 1:30 pm – Lunch
1:30 pm – 2:30 pm
Mountain Dulcimer – “My Heart Will Go On”: A Study In Song
This incredible composition by the late James Horner won the 1997 Academy Award for “Song Of The Year” from the motion picture “Titanic.” It was a huge hit for Celine Dion and went to number one all over the world. We’ll learn to play this sweet piece while also breaking down the elements to discover why it works as well as it does. (Intermediate)
3:15 pm – Concert
What other events do we offer?
Throughout the year, we provide additional opportunities to enjoy the mountain dulcimer — either through all-day workshops or concerts by performers who are traveling through our area. During the past few years, Tull Glazener, Dave Haas, Bing Futch, and Butch Ross have presented all-day workshop series, and often given a concert at the end of the day. Concerts are open to the public, with a free-will offering requested.
Whenever we have a day of workshops or a concert scheduled throughout the year, you will find full information on this page.
